Dear Friends and Supporters,

I am excited to announce that I, Mark Daniel McCarthy, am running for the Chicopee School Committee At-Large as an Independent / non-partisan candidate. As an Associate Professor of Literacy Education with a passion for public education, I am committed to bringing innovation, equity, and advocacy to our schools.

My Vision for Chicopee

As a long-time educator with almost twenty years of experience, I believe that public schools need to prepare young people with information literacy skills to be creative, critical thinkers with social intelligence. My family and I are proud to call Chicopee home, and I am dedicated to ensuring that our community thrives. I am excited to continue serving on the School Committee and to work towards creating a brighter future for our students and families.

My experiences as a teacher educator and my Ph.D. in Curriculum, Instruction, and Teacher Education have equipped me with a deep understanding of how public schools operate. I am committed to making sure that teachers and students experience joy and fulfillment in their work and that our community comes together to support our schools.

Key Issues

I am focused on four key issues that I believe are essential to the success of our schools and community: increasing our city's financial contribution to public education, rebuilding our facilities, updating our policies, and getting closer to fully staffed.
